Concrete & Foundation Work in Utah

Footings, foundation walls, slabs and flatwork poured for Utah ground and weather.

Everything above a building depends on its foundation. JCA Roofing & Steel handles concrete and foundation work — footings, foundation walls, slabs and related concrete — for projects in Salt Lake City and communities across Utah.

Utah's freeze-thaw cycles and varied soils make good preparation, reinforcement and curing especially important for concrete that needs to last.

Footings and foundation walls

Foundation work generally starts with footings set below the frost line, followed by stem walls or full basement walls. Forms are set to the plans, reinforcing is placed, anchor bolts or embeds are located, and the concrete is poured and consolidated.

Slabs and flatwork

Slabs on grade, garage floors, shop floors and similar flatwork depend on a properly prepared and compacted base, the right reinforcement and appropriate control joints. Finishing and curing steps follow the pour to help the slab gain strength and limit cracking.

Concrete in a freeze-thaw climate

Water that gets into concrete and freezes can cause surface damage over time. Mix selection, proper finishing, drainage and curing all play a role in how concrete holds up through Utah winters. Cold-weather pours need extra planning to protect fresh concrete.

Foundations that are ready for steel

When a project includes structural steel, the foundation has to deliver anchor bolts in the right place and at the right elevation. Because JCA also handles rebar and steel erection, the concrete and steel are planned together rather than by separate companies.

FAQ

Concrete & Foundations FAQ

Foundation work typically includes forming and pouring footings, forming and pouring foundation walls, placing reinforcing steel, and setting anchor bolts or embeds, followed by stripping forms once the concrete has cured enough.

Soil that freezes can heave and move. Footings are set below the local frost depth so that freezing ground does not lift or shift the foundation. The required depth is set by the local building code and project design.

Yes, with extra planning. Fresh concrete needs protection from freezing while it cures, which can involve blankets, heated enclosures or adjusted mixes. Timing is discussed when we scope the project.

Yes. JCA handles rebar installation along with concrete, which keeps the reinforcing and the pour within one crew.
